Expansive Prayer

Many years ago, in a class on developing spiritual practices, a man said to me, “My friends who believe in God have deep prayer practices that mean so much…I want to explore what it might mean to pray as an atheist. How do I pray if I’m not praying to a god? Can I develop a meaningful prayer practice as an atheist?” In our church, some of you may have deep, meaningful prayer practices, some of you might be certain that prayer is not for you, and others may have questions similar to the man above. In this service, we’ll explore an expansive approach to prayer for Unitarian Universalists, including trying out a new practice, and how we might find a way into a practice that is unfamiliar.
